sushi sunday

last sunday, jonscott and i had sushi and movie night. we made sushi and watched 'the life aquatic with steve zisou.' a maritime themed evening.
this was only our second attempt at sushi at home, but certainly not our last.
what learned for at home sushi:
1. brown rice = bad call
or maybe cooking brown rice in the rice cooker is a bad call. either way, i'm going to brave the starch next time and use white rice.
2. smoked salmon from kroger = bad call
i don't think i like smoked salmon any more. i used to. it was my 'gateway' fish into sushi. before i embraced raw fish, i would tell myself that smoked = cooked. self deception can be such a valuable tool.
3. super sharp knife = essential
i can't stress this enough. we stopped midway through cutting the first roll to sharpen our knife.
4. patience = more than a virtue
being the type A that i am, i put tremendous pressure on myself to succeed and right away, at that. jonscott often reminds me that it's ok to fail.
so, with these importance lessons in mind, the next time will surely be a success.
happy rolling, friends.

Hooray for sushi and blogging about sushi! We have all the stuff to make it, but I haven't mustered up the courage. Mmmm mustard.
